Rules of the Mess

1.  All cadets will enter and exit in a single file line, squaring corners, and moving safely and quickly, as possible.

2.  The SA will go through line with flight. Support and Command Staff will go through last.

3.  All cadets will stand at HG Parade Rest while waiting in line. Once cadets pick up their trays, they are to maintain the position of attention, sidestepping through the serving line. There is to be no talking at any time while in line.

4.  Both sides of the serving line will be used at all times. Cadets will evenly distribute themselves accordingly.

5.  All cafeteria staff will be addressed as Ma’am or Sir. When asking and receiving food, “Please” & “Thank you” will be said, as appropriate.

6.  Cadets are allowed to take whatever food they desire, but they will consume what they take.

7.  All cadets must take two drinks, one of which must be water. No cadets will drink milk at lunch.

8.  Seating arrangements in the cafeteria will be told to the Academy verbally (by a member of the Staff) and changes will only be made as needed. Blue Hats will serve as table leaders at lunch, Red Hats as table leaders during breakfast and dinner. White Hats must leave an empty seat at the table for the table leader.

9.  After getting food & drink, cadets will go to the dining area, find a table as directed & remain standing at the position of attention until the table leader gives the command SEATS.

10.  Talking at meals is a privilege, not a right. The first few days there will be absolutely no talking during meals. If the Senior Staff determines that the privilege has been earned, cadets may talk in quiet voices to the others at their table. There will be absolutely no talking between tables at any time.

11.  Cadets are to sit up straight at the table. Absolutely no heads should be on the table.

12.  When all cadets at a table having finished eating, the Red/Blue Hat will give permission to the White Hats to clean up their area by saying, “You are granted permission to take you tray, glass, and utensils to the hall of culinary atrocities for a more expedient departure from this fine dining establishment.”

13.  After returning trays, cadets will return to the table and wait to be dismissed by Senior Staff.

14.  No water bottles or guidons will be brought into the cafeteria. They are to be left in the dorms.
